Dr. James Roach is presently the EMS Medical Director for the Broward Sherriff’s Office under the formed corporation EMS Specialists, LLC; a specialized group of EMS and Emergency Medicine distinguished physicians. He also holds the role of Vice President of Integrated Emergency Medicine Specialists and Chairman of the Emergency Department at Physicians Regional Pine Ridge.

His dedication and commitment to Broward County is deeply rooted as he is Board Certified in emergency medicine gaining his education as the Administrative and Educational Chief Resident at Mount Sinai Medical Center, College of Osteopathic Medicine at Nova Southeastern University, Florida Atlantic University and graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas High School. Dr. Roach has lived in Broward County for over 30 years and currently lives with his family in Weston.

Dr. Roach has an extensive track record of successes with a leadership-team dynamic approach, patient care focus, a profound educator, and a clinical and process improvement expert. His many accolades over the past years are a demonstration of his passion for medicine. Dr. Roach received many physician awards including the BHMC Professionalism Award, BHMC Nursing Relations Award, and in 2012 Dr. Roach won the Broward Health hospital wide MVP (Most Valuable Physician) Award; this award is rarely given to emergency medicine physicians and in 2015 the he won “Distinguished Physician Award” at BHCS. His professional experience includes his past leadership roles as Chief Medical Information Officer at Broward Health, Medical Director at Broward Health Coral Springs and his presently held positions.

His involvement is integral and ingrained in every system as he chairs committees such as hospital-wide Patient Flow, Patient Satisfaction, Disaster Preparedness, Pharmacy &Therapeutic Committees, and all clinical lines (stroke, sepsis and cardiac services). With his direction and collaborative approach; stroke programs were awarded Bronze, Silver, Gold Plus from the American Stroke Association, telemedicine programs were launched, stroke process improvements were initiated, and clinical practices were elevated to new levels. His emergency department philosophy of “It is not OK for patients to wait” was validated by unprecedented benchmark metrics under his leadership and vision of transforming emergency department systems. Published data validates dramatic trend line statistics of improved quality of care, patient satisfaction, alleviating wait times, left without treatment, and door to physician assessment times.

Dr. Roach displays a tremendous affinity and profound respect for EMS personnel. He has spent countless hours in riding time and flight time with EMS during residency and as an attending.

Dr. Roach provides his expertise through a multitude of clinical lectures and educational seminars to the medical residents and paramedics. During clinical shifts, he frequently engages and discusses clinical cases with the paramedics throughout the emergency department. He maintains innovative cutting-edge emergency knowledge and provides venues to share national experts in these areas. Dr. Roach lectures maintain a focus on resuscitation efforts, airway management and stroke as he is dedicated to serving the community. As an educator, Dr. Roach is also certified as an instructor in Advanced Cardiac Life support, Advanced Pediatric Life support and Basic Life support.

Dr. Roach maintains his professional relationships as a member with the Florida Association of EMS Medical Directors (ACEP), Broward County Medical Association, American Osteopathic Association, and the National Association of EMS Physicians.

Dr. Roach is an innovator for emergency departments and over all patient flow. His adherence to clinical expertise raises the bar for patient outcomes under his leadership. His expertise in process improvement is his innate quality to transform cultures surrounding him. Through his approach of consistency of practice patterns, integrity of systems and valuable attributes towards workflows, metrics, risk mitigation, resuscitation practice, education, protocols, and innovative processes, the quality of medicine delivered is of the highest quality and efficiency.
